Start from Scratch: What to Expect from Viking’s Custom Packaging Design Process

If you’re on the fence or struggling to see the value of investing in new, custom packaging for your product, we’re here to help answer your questions. The first thing the consumer sees when they receive your product is the packaging it comes in. Once just a container used to protect the thing inside, packaging now plays an important part in setting your product apart, making a first impression, and telling your brand story. In fact, 72% of consumers agree that packaging design influences their purchasing decisions. Here’s what you can expect from Viking's custom design process.

Initial Project Discovery

Your sales representative will play a key role in managing your project and be your liaison during the process. In order to produce the best solution, they’ll ask questions to get a deep understanding of your product and company like how it arrives at the customer, any environmental restrictions required, messages your company wants to convey, and how other products in your market are designed.

Viking Project Review

After the initial discussion, your sales representative will take their knowledge back to our team of designers and product specialists to familiarize them with you and your goals. From here, we’ll work together to use our knowledge and experience to produce some solutions and samples that may fit your needs. At this point, an approximate quote will be generated.

Client Product Review

Your sales representative will organize a meeting with you to review initial product designs. During this time, you can provide any feedback you have or problems you foresee with the samples. We will also use this time to discuss delivery options. After the design is finalized, we will provide quotes, print minis, and ink swatches for your review and approval.

Submitting an Order

Now that your design is finalized, your sales representative will walk you through the process to ensure you dot all your i’s and cross your t’s. They’ll provide you with a quote based on your design and quantity, and any other fees like volume adjustments or pallet multiples. When you sign your purchase order, you’ll be assigned a customer service representative who will provide you with a timeline and assist with any changes or additional requests.

Post Order Entry

At this point, your representative will be in contact to schedule a new customer meeting with the customer service, production, shipping, and accounting teams to review all the details of your order. This will ensure that your products are manufactured and delivered with the highest attention to detail, quality, and service that you deserve.

We strive to maintain a return rate of less than 2%. To do this, we use a multipoint quality control system. We’ll check your custom packaging pre-production, during production, and post-production to guarantee your order passes quality and integrity testing.

During this period, our shipping department will contact you to schedule your order delivery. This is the time to let them know of any specifications such as details related to your location and receiving hours, delivery to a specific dock/door number, no deliveries during certain hours, or additional safety/security protocols at your facility.

Post Order Follow-Up

After you receive your custom order, your sales representative will give you a call to make sure you’re completely satisfied with your new packaging. We stand behind our product, so if you’re unhappy for any reason, we’ll work with you to make it right!

At Viking, our priority is to provide you with outstanding customer service and solutions that exceed your expectations. Our team is ready to help you design and manufacture a package that compliments your product and sets it apart! Get in touch with us today to get started.
